Play and Creative Arts Counselling for Children and Young People (10-18 years)
Through integrating therapeutic play and creative arts with talking therapy skills, the child/young person is enabled by the therapist to process emotions, trauma, and complex issues, in a safe, non-judgmental space.
It is, therefore, particularly effective for those who find traditional talk therapy challenging, as it allows expression of inner thoughts in a practical way through creativity.
Other benefits include:
Helps to process trauma, reduce stress, and boost self-esteem.
Develops resilience and helps children/young people understand their identities and relationships.
Helps communication with parents and teachers, and peers.
An appropriate individual approach is taken with each child/young person based on their particular needs.
“I think it has helped me with my communication skills. At the start, it was quite hard for me to open-up about things to others. Now I don’t feel in my head like it’s pointless talking, so it’s easier to talk to my dad and my friends more. I feel a lot happier now.”
“I liked the activities where I could represent things like my family and those close to me. I found the activities useful because I could do what I felt.”
